WHAT IS EBBRAG?
EBBRAG stands for the East Boreham Business and Resident Action Group. It is a re-formed group based on the long-standing EBRAG group (East Boreham Resident Action Group) that successfully argued against development in this sensitive area on Warminster’s eastern edge over a period of many years.
The newly re-formed group is united around the same arguments that were successfully and rightly defeated previously. It is now known as EBBRAG (the East Boreham Business & Resident Action Group), as it now involves a significant local business in addition to the local residents.
BACKGROUND & HISTORY
The land to the East of the Dene and Home Farm on the Eastern side of Warminster has been the subject of multiple attempts to develop what is a wholly unsuitable area for the various proposals that have been put forward by developers, a saga that has its’ roots going back at least 25 years.
In each development attempt, a committed group of local residents from different walks of life came together to successfully and comprehensively defeat the unsuitable and unwanted plans that were put forward, and the poor logic and thought processes presented by those promoting the proposed developments.
The work of the group, together with those in positions of authority who were prepared to listen and engage, were successful in defeating unequivocally the argument for development of the area in 2019, resulting in a resounding “no” from the Planning Inspector, thus preserving this Environmentally Sensitive, Culturally Important & Economically Susceptible Area of Warminster for the future. However, despite all the arguments that were previously and comprehensively won, the threat of development of this area has reared its head again, and so the fight to preserve this area must re-start. This is, of course, very disappointing and is the reason why the former EBRAG group (East Boreham Residents Action Group) has re-formed, but as EBBBRAG (now the East Boreham & Business Residents Action Group), as it now additionally encompasses the most affected local business, the Bishopstrow House Hotel, one of the town’s largest employers, and a business that brings much investment and economic benefit to the town. This partnership of residents and business is committed to winning the same arguments all over again, and preventing the development of this area. We ask anyone who cares about the cultural and environmental heritage, and the economic wellbeing of our town to help us achieve this.
