Hi, My name is Bax. I’m a Bernese Mountain dog – people say I’m pretty gorgeous. Of course I am and I’m very friendly. Some of you may have met me.
I actually live in the Cotswolds but I come and stay with my Nannie & Papa regularly in Warminster. I love all the amazing ‘sniffs’ on my walks with them up Home Farm Lane, across Seventy Acres and up on Battlesbury Hill.
I meet lots of my doggy friends on my walks and I adore running about with them on the hills. Nannie talks about me having a ‘joie de vivre’ – no idea what that means!
She is always banging on about the amazing views from Battlesbury back towards Warminster and how it will be a great shame if they fill it with houses. Personally, I’m more interested in the smells and meeting all my mates but I don’t want her and papa and all my doggy friends’ owners to be sad, so I hope we can stop them building the houses.’
A tongue in cheek and light-hearted perspective but a serious point: How many local residents of Warminster, together with visitors, currently enjoy the landscape accessed up home Farm Lane onto the beautiful hills surrounding our town?
Having lived in the locality for ten years, I can say from first hand knowledge that the answer is many, many people. We see people out for a run or a walk, families enjoying a bike ride or just the opportunity to spend time together outdoors in a beautiful environment, people on horseback and there are numerous regulars who rely on the landscape to exercise their dogs.
How many local people enjoy the sensational views from Battlesbury Hill as we do? Views which will disappear if building on Home Farm goes ahead. Once they are gone, they cannot be replaced.
We need to stop building on this pocket of land and prevent irreparable damage to our local landscape.
